"Time of Our Life" is a song by Big Time Rush, from their second studio album, Elevate. It was written by Nick Furlong, Logan Henderson, Jordan "Infinity" Suecof, and Antario "Tario" Holmes, and was released on November 21, 2011.
The song was featured in the third season of Big Time Rush, in the episodes "Backstage Rush", "Big Time Decision", "Big Time Rescue", and "Big Time Bloopers". A live music video was filmed during the 2012 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, and premiered during the broadcast.
Composition and recording[]
Logan Henderson co-wrote "Time of Our Life" with Nicholas "RAS" Furlong, who previously worked with the band on their first studio album, BTR, as well as with professional producers Jordan "Infinity" Suecof and Antario "Tario" Holmes. The song was initially penned during a writing camp for Big Time Rush's second album, Elevate, in June 2011,[1] and completed throughout the summer of 2011.[3][4] Henderson described it as the "ultimate party song", and explained that the song was inspired by "the last year of making music and traveling together" as a band, further saying he felt it was important to "enjoy the moment, because our time is so short here."[5] James Maslow described the song as "funky" and an individual stand-out that "adds a really fun flavor" to the Elevate album.[5]
The vocals for the song were recorded on Big Time Rush's tour bus, which was fitted with a built-in recording studio, in July and August 2011.[2] In a live Ustream on November 24, 2011, Furlong played some of the individual vocal takes from the song, and joked that the hum of the tour bus could often be heard in the background.[2]
The song was produced by Infinity and co-produced by Tario, with additional vocal production by Chris Rojas. It was engineered by Rojas and Suecof, mixed by Miles Walker with assistance from James Kang, and mastered by Chris Gehringer at Sterling Sound. The guitar on the track is performed by Tak Nakazawa.[6]
Release[]
"Time of Our Life" was released on November 21, 2011, appearing as the ninth track on BTR's second studio album, Elevate. According to Carlos PenaVega, the band had to "fight" to include the song on the record, as the label was "iffy" about accepting it. The band managed to convince them, arguing it was "perfect for [their] fans".[5]
The song is featured in several episodes of Big Time Rush, first appearing in the first episode of the third season, "Backstage Rush", in which it is one of several songs that Kendall, James, Carlos, and Logan perform live in their concert show. It is also briefly featured in the episodes "Big Time Decision" and "Big Time Bloopers". It is most prominently featured in the episode "Big Time Rescue", which includes a music video segment where the boys sing and dance with rescued animals.
In addition to Elevate, the song has been included on many subsequent compilation releases, including The Greatest Hits, L'Intégrale, and the Ultimate Fan Edition.
Music video[]
The members of Big Time Rush directed and recorded a live music video for "Time of Our Life" during the 2012 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, the television network's annual award show.[7][8] The video includes footage of the band riding in the KCA zeppelin,[9] greeting fans upon their arrival on the Orange Carpet, and dancing with kids, fans, and with the cast and crew of Big Time Rush, as well as of other Nickelodeon programs such as iCarly, Victorious, and House of Anubis. It also shows footage of the band taking the stage after winning their first ever KCA for "Favorite Music Group", and being "slimed" afterward.[10]
The video was aired during commercial breaks on Nickelodeon following its premiere, and was also uploaded to the band's VEVO account.[11]
Live performances[]
Big Time Rush has performed "Time of Our Life" on every live concert tour since the song's release, debuting on the Better with U Tour and returning for the Big Time Summer Tour, Summer Break Tour, Live World Tour, Big Time Rush Live, and Forever Tour.
