Nickelodeon (often shortened to Nick) is an American pay television channel that launched on April 1, 1979, as the first cable channel for children. It is run by Paramount Global through its networks division's Kids and Family Group. Its programming is primarily aimed at grade school and early teens aged 2–17, along with a broader family audience through its program blocks. With their weekday morning program block aimed at preschoolers ages 2–5.

Nickelodeon's broadcast day runs on Sundays from 6 a.m.- 8 p.m., Monday-Thursdays from 7 a.m.-8 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m.-9 p.m., and Saturdays from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. (Eastern and Pacific Time). Since 1985, it shares its channel space with Nick at Nite, a night time channel that airs sitcom reruns during the interim hours. It is treated as a separate channel from Nickelodeon by A.C. Nielsen Co. for ratings purposes.

Since 2004, Nickelodeon has been run by Cyma Zarghami. It was ranked as the #1 cable channel in 2011.

The series "Big Time Rush" premiered with an hour-long pilot episode, "Big Time Audition", on Nickelodeon, on November 28, 2009. Its official debut episode premiered on January 18, 2010, earning 6.8 million viewers, making it Nickelodeon's highest-rated live-action series debut ever. The show's second season premiered on September 25, 2010. On May 24, 2011, Big Time Rush was renewed for a third season with production scheduled to begin January 2012. Season three premiered on May 12, 2012. On March 10, 2012, a film adaptation named "Big Time Movie" based on the series premiered. On August 6, 2012, Nickelodeon renewed Big Time Rush for a 13-episode fourth season. Production began on January 7, 2013. The fourth season premiered May 2, 2013, and aired its series finale "Big Time Dreams" on July 25, 2013. With a series run of 74 episodes spanning over four seasons in 4 years, Big Time Rush is the sixth longest-running live-action TV series in the history of Nickelodeon.

During the first season, a total of 20 episodes aired on Nickelodeon on Friday nights at 8:00 pm ET, with occasional episode debuts on Saturday nights starting May 8, 2010. Reruns also aired weekend afternoons on Nickelodeon's spinoff channel, TeenNick.

Season 4 aired on Thursday Nights labeled "Big Time Thursday" starting May 2, 2013.
