"I Don't Want to Wait" is an unreleased song recorded by Big Time Rush. It was created in 2011, during sessions for their second studio album, Elevate.[1] The song interpolates singer-songwriter Paula Cole's 1996 single of the same name, with new lyrics written by the band.[2]

Background[]

Beginning just after the release of their debut album, BTR, Big Time Rush started recording new music, loosely aimed for a sophomore album.[3] Following scattered sessions throughout early 2011, major efforts began in June, when the members began co-writing new songs themselves.[4][5] Of the 40-50 songs recorded in total, roughly 30 were written by the band.[6]

On March 24, 2017, Kendall Schmidt played the song during an episode of his Facebook livestream and Podcast, Koffee with Kendall. After recalling another song written for the same album, Schmidt attempted to find and play the song from his iTunes library.[2] He instead found "I Don't Want to Wait", which he then played in full. When viewers pointed out the sample taken from Paula Cole's single, Schmidt explained that the song interpolated Cole's original hook, with otherwise all-new lyrics written by the band.

It was mixed by engineer Miles Walker in 2011, alongside several other Elevate tracks and outtakes.[1]

Lyrics[]

I'm standing here
Swear I can't take my eyes off of you, girl
I'm telling you, I'm standing here
I would never do anything to hurt you
And you're standing there
Girl, you're looking like a 20 next to tens
I don't want to go through this again
'Cause all I, all I want is you
See baby, you are my perfect imperfection
My happy end as seconds go, oh yeah

CHORUS:
I don't want to wait for our lives to be over
To sit there and wonder what could be
I don't want to wait for our lives to be over
I gotta know right now, are you with me?
Tell me, I don't want to wait
I don't want to wait

Hotel after hotel, airport after airport, flight after flight
I want to be with you
Can't stand it so I carry a picture
I got my hand extended to move in your direction
And I can't believe I'm feeling like this
I would lose it if we kiss

CHORUS

Seconds turn into minutes
Minutes turn into hours
Hours into days
No baby, I don't want to wait
No, I don't want to be that guy
Who breaks your heart and tells you lies
The truth is that you should stay
'Cause baby I don't want to, I don't want to

CHORUS

I don't want to wait for our lives to be over
I don't want to wait
I don't want to wait
I don't want to wait for our lives to be over
I gotta know right now, are you with me?
Tell me, I don't want to wait
