"Elevate" is the title track and final song from Big Time Rush's second studio album, Elevate. It was co-written by James Maslow alongside Eric Sanicola, Damon Sharpe, and Johnny Severin. On June 3, 2012, "Elevate" was released as a promotional single in the United Kingdom.
In the show, the song debuted in Big Time Movie as one of the first songs played on Big Time Rush's world tour.
Composition[]
"Elevate" was one of the last songs written for Big Time Rush's second album. James Maslow co-wrote the song with Damon Sharpe and Eric Sanicola during a writing session in July 2011.[1] When describing the inspiration for the track, Maslow said that the band already had "lots of mid-tempo [songs]" and "a lot of slows" for the album, which encouraged them to try something different, going for an "upbeat party track song." Damon Sharpe gave the idea of creating a title track.[2] On behalf of himself and the band, Maslow said, "We love it as a whole and it’s just enjoyable and fun for everybody and I think that track really represents just having a good time."[2]
Johnny Powers Severin additionally worked on the track as a writer and producer.
On the Show[]
The song was heard in Big Time Movie and was the last song the guys performed on their All Over the World Tour in London. They performed it onstage after A Hard Day's Night.
In Backstage Rush, the boys are in Toronto for their concert and have one more chance of breaking the quick change record held by N'Sync. The boys are able to slow down time and break the record and perform the song, which was the finale for the concert.
The song is also played in Big Time Returns where Gustavo tells Carlos to pick this song for their radio appearance.
During Big Time Surprise, Kendall is trying to prove that Beau, Lucy's ex-boyfriend, is un-loyal. The song plays when they chase him around the apartment and successfully prove a point to Lucy, causing Beau to leave. Lucy and Kendall share a moment only to get caught by Jo.
Music Video[]
A music video, directed by Shawn Corrigan, premiered on Nickelodeon on April 21, 2012, alongside the Big Time Tour Special television special. Corrigan was hired to travel with the band while they toured, and create "lifestyle and time-lapse and crowd source footage to cut with a Multi-cam shoot for the final video."[3]
