"Crazy for U" is a song by Big Time Rush. Kendall Schmidt co-wrote it with Damon Sharpe, Jeremy Skaller, and Rob Larow in June 2011, during sessions for the group's second album, Elevate. An upbeat, acoustic ballad about going "crazy" with infatuation for someone, the band took a particular liking to the track, which they described as having a "rasta feel".[2] After the song was left an outtake, they held onto it and pushed to re-use it for future projects, eventually including it on their third studio album, 24/seven (2013).
It was featured in the eleventh episode of Big Time Rush's fourth season, "Big Time Tour Bus", and was performed on the 2013 Summer Break Tour.
Background[]
"Crazy for U" was written and recorded in June 2011, over multiple sessions at Paramount Studios.[3][4][1] Kendall Schmidt penned the lyrics and melodies with regular producer Damon Sharpe, as well as producers Jeremy Skaller and Robert Larow of Orange Factory Music. The rest of the band recorded vocals later in the month with Sharpe, at Central Command Studios.[5][1]
Schmidt said there were "a lot of things that inspired the song", including BTR's fans.[2] Lyrically, the song describes infatuation, playfully likening it to being "crazy" or out of one's mind.
Release and television[]
"Crazy for U" was narrowly cut from the band's second album, Elevate. While Carlos PenaVega said they were "going to put it on," he explained the track was ultimately left off in favor of others.[6] However, the band held onto the track and frequently discussed re-purposing it for another project. Speaking to Popstar Magazine days after finalizing the album tracklist, Schmidt indirectly mentioned a “third song” he had written in addition to "Cover Girl" and "You're Not Alone", saying he hoped to release it the following summer.[7]
Tracklist reveal
The song ultimately found "the right home" on the group's third album, 24/seven.[6] After debuting a live performance in April 2013, the band announced the song would be on the band's third album, saying "we're so happy we get to play it for you guys."[8] The song was formally confirmed via a Twitter image reveal in late April.[9]
During "Big Time Tour Bus", the boys are trapped in a heavy traffic jam while on their way to San Diego to perform with Victoria Justice, the star of Victorious. To kill the time, they perform the song to show what they do while they are going on tours.
Live performances[]

In live performances, "Crazy for U" has typically been performed acoustically. The band debuted it for the first time on April 15, 2013 at The Grove in Los Angeles, during a live appearance on Extra.[8][citation needed] They later played the song on the Summer Break Tour, including it as part of a dedicated acoustic section. On July 9, 2013, ahead of the Charlotte, NC tour stop, the group appeared on the show Charlotte Today with a live acoustic performance.[10]
